Russia Deploys New Tosochka Rocket Launcaher To Ukraine

Russian state media has released footage showing its advanced rocket launcher, the TOS-2 'Tosochka', in Ukraine.

Russian media reported that the TOS-2 represents an evolutionary step from the TOS-1A, featuring important improvements such as a wheeled chassis and new components. This development improves system mobility and operational efficiency.

Development of a fearsome new version of Russia's TOS-1A thermobaric rocket launcher involved relocating key equipment to a wheeled platform. The TOS-2 was mounted on an ‘Ural’ wheeled chassis with an armored cab.

The addition of a crane for reloading the rocket, a new fire control system (FCS), and other improvements significantly improved its overall performance.

The head of Russia's Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Protection Forces, also known collectively by the acronym RKhB, I. Kirillov, announced in November 2020 that TOS-2 had entered the military research and testing stage. The decision regarding his formal adoption into the armed forces will be based on the results of this assessment.

Notable improvements in TOS-2 include extending its range to 15 kilometers, increasing the precision and effectiveness of the thermobaric warhead, and introducing reinforced armor protection for the platform.

Additionally, the number of launch tubes on the TOS-2 has been reduced to 18, simplifying its design while maintaining firepower.

The most significant advance in TOS-2 is the expansion of its scope, allowing it to participate in large-scale joint military operations.

The deployment of the TOS-2 ‘Tosochka’ system in Ukraine serves as a clear demonstration of Russia's military capabilities and its ongoing efforts to increase firepower, precision and flexibility.
